These workshops and online resources are designed to help students and postdocs conduct high quality research and scholarship while at UA and lay the foundation for successful careers.

Required Training

Depending on the nature of your research or your source of funding, you and your research team may be required to complete one or more of the following trainings.

Financial and/or Institutional Conflict of Interest
Who is required: Every PI must successfully complete the mandatory conflict of interest training course provided by the Office for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
Deadline for completion: Prior to proposal submission for all PIs receiving funding from any federal source, including sub-federal awards; or prior to participating in the Conduct of Research for all other PIs; and every four years thereafter or as directed by the University. Valid for 4-year period.

Export Control Projects
Who is required: All UA employees working on an export controlled project secured with a Technology Control Plan.
Deadline for completion: Training must be successfully completed prior to the start of the project and thereafter annually throughout the duration of the secured project or for as long as the TCP remains in place.

Protecting Human Research Subjects
Who is required: All members of the research team are expected to complete online training prior to conducting any activities related to the human research.
Deadline for completion: Training must be completed before participating in human subjects research. Valid for 4-year period.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee/UA Lab Animal Welfare
Who is required: All members of the research team are expected to complete training prior to conducting any activities related to research involving animals.
Deadline for completion:
Prior to start date of project.(?)

HIPAA Certification
Who is required: All members of the UA workforce who access protected health information and/or perform work/research in a UA Health Care Component as part of their job responsibilities.
Deadline for completion: Within 30 days of joining UA and annually thereafter.

Biosafety Protection
Who is required: Appropriate training is required for all individuals that work with and/or supervise the use of recombinant and biohazardous material.
Deadline for completion:
Anually.

Laboratory Chemical Safety
Who is required: All faculty, staff, students, and volunteers working with hazardous chemicals in a laboratory.
Deadline for completion:
Personnel must be trained before they may work in a laboratory using hazardous chemicals.

Radiation Safety
Who is required: All Faculty, staff, students, and personnel working with various radiation equipment in a laboratory.
Deadline for completion: Prior to start date of project.(?)

Responsible Conduct of Research

Deadline for completion: Valid for 4-year period.
