Since 1999's amendment to OMB (U.S. Office of Management and Budget) Circular A-110 requiring research data produced with Federal funding to be made publicly available, Data Management Plans (DMP) have become part of proposals for extramural funding at multiple Federal funding agencies and some foundations. On February 22, 2013 the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) released the "Increasing Access to the Results of Federally Funded Scientific Research" memorandum. As a result, 19 federal agencies updated their public access policies, the majority now require a Data Management Plan.
UA Resources for Data Management
The University of Arizona Research Data Management Services Team provides services for faculty, staff, and students to help comply with funder data management plan requirements, meet data sharing mandates, increase research efficiency and reproducibility, and more. The Federal Agency Policies for Public Access includes “quick guides” to both publication and data access policies for the top federal funding agencies of research at the UA. The Data Management website provides current information on Funding Agency Requirements in response to the February 22, 2013 OSTP memo.

Data Management Planning Tool (DMPTool)
Researchers who are applying for grants that require data management plans (DMP) can use the DMPTool, a service of the University of California Curation Center, to help write the plan. The DMPTool provides data management plan templates for federal funding agencies and foundations, generating a customized DMP for submission with a grant application. In addition, the DMPTool provides general guidance for data management and examples of DMPs.
Since the University of Arizona is a DMPTool partner organization, researchers are able to log-in using their NetID and view UA specific information and tips.
