Radioactive Materials

Radioactive materials and radiation producing devices are important tools in modern scientific research and in disease diagnosis and treatment.  However, the various types of radiation emitted by these materials and devices can be potentially hazardous to human health.

The University of Arizona is committed to a positive safety culture. The Radiation Safety Program has been established ensure that:

  • any hazards associated with the use of radioactive materials or radiation producing devices are minimized
  • all users of these materials and devices are properly trained,  and
  • all uses of these materials and devices are in compliance with applicable State and Federal regulatory requirements
