Contract & Research Support (CRS), a unit of the Office for Research & Discovery (ORD), assists the University of Arizona research community in its efforts to secure external funding through the timely negotiation of award agreement terms and conditions that comply with Board of Regents policy, and state law, and which minimize the risk to university resources.

Contract & Research Support (CRS) is responsible for the timely negotiation of terms and conditions contained in award documents for the purpose of ensuring that these terms comply with Board of Regents policies, and state law. CRS also provides training to faculty and departments regarding the contract process. CRS is an experienced resource for faculty and staff who conduct research and who work to advance the University’s strategic goals through externally funded projects and programs.
CRS responsibilities include the following functions, activities, and services:

  • Receipt of Award
  • Provide assistance in interpreting terms and conditions as well as sponsor requirements
  • Offer consultations with faculty/staff seeking external funding, and to explain university requirements relative to receipt of such funding
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with sponsors while keeping faculty/staff informed as to the latest developments in such negotiations
  • Sign the resultant, negotiated award agreement
  • Provide training to faculty/staff so that they are aware of the process for initiating contract negotiations with sponsors
  • Coordinate with the Office of the General Counsel, Sponsored Projects Services, the Office for Research and Discovery, the UA Foundation, Technology Transfer Arizona, Financial Services Office and other entities as needed in the negotiation of terms and conditions

Contract & Research Support (CRS) works most closely with Sponsored Projects Services (SPS), which manages the routing process for agreements and creates sponsored accounts for the receipt of funds.
CRS also works with the Office of the General Counsel and Technology Transfer Arizona in order to ensure that general legal terms, and intellectual property terms, comply with Arizona Board of Regents policy and state laws.
